A Forgotten Ring Turned Family Heirloom

After Colette Hamon, President and CEO of BraTopia Inc.,inherited her mother's wedding ring following her parents divorce, she found a local jeweller to help her redesign the ring into something new for her own wedding.

“I’m a big believer that diamonds are forever. I wanted to design a ring for my marriage that was unique and incorporated the original diamonds from my mother’s ring.” – Colette

After Colette and her husband divorced in 2011, she put the ring in a drawer where it would sit and collect dust for years to come.

“It was a beautiful ring but there were certain emotions attached to it that I didn’t want to be reminded of so I couldn’t bring myself to wear it anymore. But what do you do with ‘dead jewelry’?”

Colette doesn’t recall exactly how she met Ellinor but after looking through her portfolio, she knew she wanted to work with the designer on creating a set of stacking rings.

“I have three kids and they all have very unique birth stones so I wanted this set to celebrate them.” – Colette

Being able to create the perfect custom designed piece of jewellery specifically for a client always goes closely hand in hand with learning to know the wearer; discovering how the owner wants to wear their jewellery, how it should feel to become a natural part of their life. With these stories EVStenroos shares the process from her perspective, as an insight into the relationships that forms between the designer maker and the wearer.

Ellinor utilized the diamond from Colette’s ring to represent her April baby. There is also an amethyst for February and Alexandrite for June as well as both white and yellow gold.

“I really love when women come to me with old inherited gold, or gifts from exes, that they want turned into a new piece. Not only is it sustainable but it is empowering. You don’t have to wait for someone to buy you diamonds or rings. You can use unworn or forgotten pieces that are sitting in your jewelry box to create something fresh and modern for yourself.” – Ellinor
